Kempton Park Hospital has announced the opening of its new, dedicated antenatal clinic wing, a significant development aimed at improving maternal healthcare services for the growing population of Kempton Park and its surrounding areas. The expansion addresses the increasing demand for prenatal care within the Ekurhuleni Metro, particularly for residents in communities like Rhodesfield, Glen Marais, and those working in the adjacent industrial and logistics sectors.
The new facility features additional consultation rooms, a dedicated waiting area, and improved privacy for patients. This upgrade is expected to significantly reduce the long waiting times previously experienced by pregnant women seeking routine check-ups and specialized care. Hospital management stated that the investment reflects a commitment to supporting healthy pregnancies and improving birth outcomes in the diverse working-class and middle-class communities that the hospital serves.
Dr. Thandiwe Ncube, Head of Obstetrics at Kempton Park Hospital, expressed optimism about the impact of the new wing. "This new antenatal clinic is a game-changer for our community. We often see expectant mothers traveling long distances or facing delays due to overstretched facilities. With this expansion, we can offer more timely, comprehensive, and comfortable care, ensuring that every mother and baby receives the attention they deserve from early pregnancy through to delivery. It directly supports our efforts to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates in the region."
The initiative is part of a broader provincial strategy to decentralise and strengthen primary healthcare services, making specialised care more accessible at a local level. The hospital encourages all pregnant women in the Kempton Park area to utilise the new facility for their antenatal needs, emphasising the importance of early and consistent prenatal care for the health of both mother and child.
