Kempton Park, often recognized as a bustling industrial and logistics hub, is preparing to showcase its cultural heart with the launch of the inaugural 'Rhodesfield Rhythms' music festival. Scheduled for Saturday, 26th October, at the Rhodesfield Recreation Centre grounds, the event aims to bring together residents from across the diverse working-class and middle-class communities of Ekurhuleni for a day of local music, food, and family-friendly entertainment.
The festival, an initiative spearheaded by the Kempton Park Community Arts Council (KPCAC), will feature a lineup exclusively comprising artists from Ekurhuleni, ranging from emerging gospel choirs to seasoned jazz ensembles and energetic kwaito acts. Beyond the main stage, attendees can explore craft stalls showcasing local artisans and indulge in a variety of culinary delights from food vendors, many of whom are small businesses operating within the Kempton Park area. This focus on local participation is central to the festival's mission, aiming to boost community pride and economic activity.
Councillor Themba Ndlovu, Ward 16, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event. “Kempton Park is more than just warehouses and cargo; it’s a vibrant community rich with talent and spirit. 'Rhodesfield Rhythms' is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our local artists and give our residents a platform to connect and enjoy.
